Lewis Hamilton heeft de allereerste Grand Prix van Qatar op zijn naam geschreven. De coureur van Mercedes gaf de leiding vanaf de start niet uit handen en won dominant. Max Verstappen maakte een gridstraf van vijf plaatsen goed door als tweede te eindigen op het Losail International Circuit. Ondertussen pakte Fernando Alonso zijn eerste podium sinds de Grand Prix van Hongarije van 2014.
